Garlic turmeric rice, creamy turmeric pasta, turmeric tea, creamy turmeric chicken skillet, turmeric cauliflower rice, curry; all of these foods I’ve tried and I highly recommend, and not because of today’s subject matter. No, they’re just delicious, and there are recipes online for you to try. However, these dishes also go to show just how versatile turmeric is as a spice, it can be mixed into anything and everything you can dream of, like sweets and gummies.
Speaking of gummies, there’s been an influx of popular spices being made into supplements and gummies, with turmeric being just one. But why? What are the benefits of taking turmeric? Well that’s why I’m here: to guide you on just how turmeric turns out to be a fantastic boon to your health, and why gummies can give you that boon daily.
What Are Turmeric Gummies?
In case you’re not familiar, turmeric is a flowering plant that’s native to India, and is actually in the same family as ginger. Most of the time it’s ground up and dried into a fine powder that people use to spice up their dishes, and given its popularity, you’ve likely tried it before, due to its presence in curry powder. It’s what gives it that yellow color.
So what are turmeric gummies? In short: they’re supplements. They’re small delicious little treats that you take daily to get a dose of turmeric without having to put it in all your food every single day. They taste great and still give you that dose of spice you need to start your day and improve your health little by little. Not to mention, because their only purpose is to deliver you a good dose of turmeric, these gummies are always safe and all natural. I always suggest you give them a try.
What Are the Benefits of Turmeric Gummies?
While turmeric itself is great, actually having concentrated turmeric is where it’s at, as that’s where you get the full force of its health bonuses. That’s because there’s more to the spice than just its name. What you really should be listening out for is curcumin, which is the active ingredient inside of turmeric. It’s what gives the spice the health kick it does, so by taking concentrated doses of turmeric, you’re taking more concentrated doses of curcumin, and thus further reaping the health benefits. Turmeric has been proven to have certain medicinal properties, so these aren’t just a waste of your time.
So here are some health boons that I think might have you reconsidering adding turmeric to your diet plans.
It Can Prevent Inflammation
Now, normally, inflammation is a good thing. It’s your body trying to fend off an attack from outside threats like parasites and infections, all the while trying to heal the spot in your body that’s damaged. However, there is a point where your body stops working with you and starts working against you.
Chronic inflammation is not good, because that means your body is now damaging your own tissue. Chronic, low-level inflammation, in fact, is said to be a sign of certain serious diseases, such as cancer, a metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, and a possible degenerative condition.
Thankfully, curcumin, and thus turmeric, can actually be an anti-inflammatory supplement. If you believe you have chronic inflammation, fighting it might just help to prevent and treat a few of these diseases, though you should always check in with a doctor in case you have other worrying signs.
It Can Increase the Body’s Capacity for Antioxidants
Antioxidants are important for your health, and a big part of that is because oxidative damage has been believed to be one of the factors behind quite a few diseases, as well as aging. Now, I’m not telling you that this stuff can prevent all diseases and make you immortal; believe me, I wish it were true.
What happens is that curcumin, which is a powerful antioxidant, is able to neutralize free radicals, which are molecules without electrons that are extremely reactive, and keep them from doing damage to our bodies.
It May Be Useful In Treating Alzheimer’s Disease
So let’s introduce BDNF proteins. Standing for brain-derived neurotrophic factor, the BDNF is a gene that makes proteins that help maintain the life of our neurons. Thus, the protein involved takes a major role in things such as learning and memory, as well as things such as actions we take for granted, like eating, drinking, and maintaining our body weight. The memory bit, however, is where it’s most important. So it stands that if someone were to help produce more of the proteins, then it will do well for a healthier brain overall. That’s where turmeric comes in.
Curcumin may actually lead to more BDNF proteins in our bodies, and so many are considering whether or not it can possibly be useful in improving memory, attention, and hopefully Alzheimer’s disease.
It Can Improve Joint Health
People tend to take their joints for granted up until they begin to stiffen. To say that joints are important would be an understatement, and when they begin to stiffen, that’s when life gets even more difficult. So that’s where turmeric comes in.
Remember when I mentioned its anti-inflammatory properties? Well it comes back again this round to help with joints. As I said, chronic inflammation is able to do serious damage to your body, because it’s no longer helping you and is instead hurting you. This is especially true for your joints, as even a bit of damage to them can mess things up. That’s where conditions like degenerative and inflammatory arthritis come in. By fighting inflammation, turmeric may be able to treat or prevent conditions like arthritis so that you can live your life to its fullest potential without all the joint pain.
A Little Doesn’t Go A Long Way
So one thing about turmeric that is very important to know is how it’s taken for health purposes. Yes, turmeric is delicious and great in foods of all kinds. It’s also very good for inflammation and helping your joint health, that’s true. However, the latter is only true when it comes to large doses.
In reality, to have the spice make a lasting effect on your health and to really support your body, you need to have it in larger amounts. The reason for this is because curcumin, the active ingredient, isn’t absorbed in our bloodstreams all that well, which means you need more. This doesn’t mean putting an extra shake of the turmeric in your food, either. Unless you’re eating the entire pot of food all at once, spicing your food doesn’t do much for you; not to mention, I think you have bigger problems in that situation than just joint health if you’re eating an entire pot of food all in one sitting.
If you’re dead set on using turmeric, you’re going to want to take supplements. There are two kinds, actually.
One kind of turmeric supplement is through a turmeric extract pill. It’s a small pill you can take every day with the rest of your supplements to help improve your health.
Another alternative to the usual turmeric supplement, and one that I personally prefer, are turmeric gummies we’ve discussed today. If you need some turmeric in your system to improve your health, these are the way to go, in my opinion.
